The new Lug-It UI
Why did we move off Noah’s Classifieds?
We worked really hard at streamlining the new UI. The old Noah’s Classifieds based UI was very robust and flexible – if you’re an end user or website deployer. If you want to build a custom classifieds site, Noah’s code base is not really easy to navigate. In fact, we’re not even sure they want you to tweak their code. That being said, some of their code is really, really clever. Until we saw it in action in their code, we had no idea php could do some of the things they were making it do.
The only criticism of Noah’s code – what’s up with code comments in Hungarian ? Clearly not meant to be read by a global audience.
That being said, if all you want is to create a classifieds website, you can do worse than Noah’s.
What’s the design philosophy behind the new UI?
We decided upfront that we wanted a cool site – the kind of UI that Apple would make if they got in to the web development business. Being a site to post ads, we wanted a shallow website. We wanted people to be able to get out a site traversal with maximal ease. Logical tabs came in very handy to push that idea forward. The popup dialogs also added to that shallow feel we wanted to create.
